🌐 This is about a commissioned illustration I worked on, back in December 2022.

🌐 ၂၀၂၂ ဒီဇင်ဘာလတုန်းက ဆွဲခဲ့တဲ့ commissioned illustration လေး တခုအကြောင်းပေါ့။

1.

🌐 The client, Kenneth Wong, requested an illustration for his podcast and provided a list of elements he wanted to feature (Some were specifically requested by him, while others were details I picked up from the podcast).

• Venetian blinds
• Cement
• Canned drink
• Carbonated drink
• Someone who returned from Britain
• Chair
• To think, to believe
• Hairstyle with a bun

🌐 Client ဖြစ်တဲ့ Kenneth Wong က သူ့ podcast အတွက် ပုံတပုံ တောင်းဆိုတယ်။ အဲဒီ့ထဲမှာ ဒါလေးတွေပါချင်တယ်လို့ request လုပ်တယ် (တချို့ဟာတွေက သူတောင်းဆိုတာ၊ တချို့ဟာတွေက podcast ထဲက ကိုယ်ဆွဲထုတ်မိတာ)။

🌐 I drew a few sketches to include all these elements while keeping it visually appealing. Then, I got 3 different sketches.

🌐 ဒါလေးတွေလည်း အကုန်ပါအောင်၊ ကြည့်လို့လည်း ကောင်းအောင် sketch တွေလျှောက်ခြစ်ကြည့်တယ်။ sketch ၃ မျိုး ထွက်လာတယ်။

🌐 Then came the decision, which sketch should I go with?

In the end, I chose this one. While sketching, I was in my room which is near the airport, where I could see planes passing by. The window blinds in my room were also exactly like the ones in my illustration. So, I naturally sketched this and I leaned towards this version which resonated with me the most.

🌐 ဒီ ၃ ပုံထဲက ဘယ်ပုံရွေးရင် ကောင်းမလဲပေါ့။

နောက်ဆုံးတော့ ကိုယ့်ဟာကိုယ် ဒီပုံလေး ရွေးဖြစ်လိုက်တယ်။ ဒီ sketch ကို ဆွဲဖြစ်တာကလည်း အဲ့ပုံဆွဲတုန်းက ကိုယ့်အခန်းက လေယာဥ်ကွင်းနဲ့နီးပြီး လေယာဥ်တွေကို လှမ်းမြင်နေရတယ်။ အိပ်ခန်းလိုက်ကာလေးကလည်း အဲ့ပုံစံလေးပဲ။ အဲဒါနဲ့ connect ဖြစ်မိတာလေးတွေကို ချဆွဲမိပြီး ကိုယ်ခံစားအမိဆုံးပုံလေးကိုပဲ ရွေးဖြစ်လိုက်တာ။

🌐 Next, I experimented with different color palettes. This was one of the test versions that I rejected, but I kept it as part of the process record.

🌐 အရောင်တွေ လျှောက်စမ်းခြယ်ကြည့်တယ်။ ဒါက ကိုယ့်ဟာကိုယ် reject လုပ်လိုက်တဲ့ထဲက record ကျန်ခဲ့တဲ့ အရောင် version တခု။

🌐 Then came some refinements. I don’t remember if the client suggested changes, or if I just tweaked it on my own. I made some adjustments. and added a few extra props.

🌐 နောက်... client က ပြင်ဖို့ suggestion ပေးလို့ပဲလား၊ ကိုယ့်ဟာကိုယ်ပဲ ပြင်တာလား မမှတ်မိတော့ဘူး... ဟိုပြင်ဒီပြင်လေးတွေ နည်းနည်းပါးပါး လုပ်ကြည့်တယ်။ Props လေးတချို့ ထပ်ထည့်ကြည့်တယ်။

🌐 At some point, I got crazy and added a ghost in the background. This wasn’t part of the client's request. The idea just popped into my head. Was it a lonely ghost, just like the girl? Or was it a silent roommate for the lonely girl? Either way, the vibe felt right, and so I added it right at that moment.

🌐 လုပ်ရင်းနဲ့ စိတ်ရူးပေါက်ပြီး အနောက်မှာ ghost လေးတကောင် ထည့်ဆွဲလိုက်တယ်။ ဒါက client request ထဲမပါဘူး။ ကိုယ့်ဟာကိုယ်ဆွဲရင်း စိတ်ကူးပေါက်လာလို့။ ဒီမိန်းကလေးလိုပဲ အထီးကျန်နေတဲ့ ghost လေးတကောင်လား၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အထီးကျန်နေတဲ့ သူမအတွက် အဖော် roomate လေးလား... တခုခုပဲ။ အဲ့ vibe လေး ဝင်လာလို့ ကောက်ထည့်လိုက်တာ။

🌐 However, since the ghost wasn’t part of the client’s original request and I didn’t want the illustration to distract the direction of the podcast, I removed it back before delivering the final piece. Was working crazy as I wanted.

And that’s how this illustration came to be. I just named this piece "A Lonely Girl".

🌐 ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း client request ထဲ မပါတာကော၊ နောက်ပြီး podcast ကို အားဖြည့်တဲ့ ပုံတခုအနေနဲ့ အနှောက်အယှက်ဖြစ်ပြီး direction မလွဲသွားစေချင်တာကောကြောင့် client ကို final ပုံပို့တော့ ghost လေး ပြန်ဖြုတ်ပြီး ပို့ပေးလိုက်တယ်။ ထင်တိုင်းကြဲနေတာ ကိုယ့်ဟာကိုယ်။

အဲဒါနဲ့ ဒီပုံလေး ရလာတာပါပဲ။ ပုံလေးနာမည်ကို "A Lonely Girl" လို့ပဲ ပေးလိုက်တယ်။
